    Safe time and money... Go for a cheap monoblock pavers over sub base and then sharp sand... Then there is no buying expensive concrete or mixer work.. per M2 crappy pavers are much cheaper than concrete... Definitely stable enough for a shed, garden room etc...

    1:30. Basic chemistry safety. Never, ever add water to a strong acid or alkaline substance. Always add the acid/alkaline to the water. That way you start with a pH neutral substance that you progressively make stronger. This greatly reduces the chances of splashing and minimises the heat produced by what is usually an exothermic reaction. This precaution could easily save one’s skin or eyesight.

    There is another word used for windpumps that is similar to mill.... in Afrikaans the daughter child of Dutch people who fled here , meul, plural meulens. a wind pomp here is usually associated with a small pond or dam wich would be fed from a pump using the windpomp. We still have a dutch mill just outside Cape Town, recently damaged in a fire, so under reconstruction.. When I look at the Netherlands it gives me weird people. some of the buildings I see existed there when my ancestors left there in the 1600s.

    Acid v. alkali. Bicarb's alkaline, cement is EXTREMELY alkaline, so you need something acidic to attack it.

    I had a house built in the Toulouse region of France when I was living there, and it was built using clay bricks and then covered french crepe which is a type of rendering used extensively in France. They are great at keeping the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I am still amazed we haven't progressed in the UK past using concrete block!

  • @newbeginnings8566
    @newbeginnings8566 16 годин тому

    They are thicker versions with many more air pockets.. these act as a thermal insulation.. We built our house in France with these.. those heavy concrete blocks offer no insulation and are hard to work with.. No regrets at all

  •  16 годин тому

    Have a look as Iso Span. It is a wood-concrete material manufactured in Austria but available for shipping to the UK as well. Very easy to work with, can even be premade into wall segments, very good insulation. My house was built from it in the early 1960s and is still holding up perfectly. Newer variations are availbable with builtin insulation. R-Values of up to 6,51 are available. U-Value is 0,148 for those blocks then. They allow for very rapid construction with great thermal and accoustic properties.

    • @SkillBuilder

    Another great video, thanks. Any hints on what to do when the cartridge is too short to reach the seat. I've added another washer to fill the gap but maybe there's a better answer?

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder 17 годин тому

      I think adding a washer is the only solution apart from buying the correct cartridge. When ceramic disc taps were introduced they should have had a standard design with dimension to suit any tap. The current situation is a nightmare for plumbers who like to carry spares on the van.

    • @SkillBuilder

      As he explained at the start they didn't want to apply for planning consent so the porch had to stay within the dimensions for permitted development. That cut brick is the difference.

    Heat pump is always a problem. They do not perform at cold temperatures. And, in fact, having a good insulated house brings the electric bill down to affordable prices, if you have instead a boiler , you spend even less in energy than having a heat pump. Raising the gas prices has one only outcome: increase the energy poverty, because it won't bring you bill down when using a heat pump but instead will equalize the energy bill for heat pumps and boiler to the high level price of heat pump. Good way to increase taxes, I would say!!! We miss people who understands about energy and technologies to set policies at government level...

    Porotherm ir equivalents are used all over continental Europe, in all sorts of climates. They're often used for partitions, as well as walls. I have never understood why they're not more commonly used in the UK and Ireland. They have a lot of advantages and potentially could reduce costs.

    In my job, (cement based polished screed flooring) we only use 50% watered down 29Y40 based bonding liquid instead of just water. A quick soak in some Xylene or thinners gets the tools clean in seconds. Xylene instantly softens the latex and turns the hard cement into a paste.

    • @richardmoss9188
      @richardmoss9188 20 годин тому

      Do you use straight Xylene or do you dilute it? I’m a floorlayer so use a lot of smoothing compounds. Try to clean straight after use but work in a lot of office building in Sydney so don’t always have some where to do it and get rid of the dirty water

    One of the reasons could be because of weather, environment conditions, and building codes. A lot of people in UK, and the rest of Europe give us in the states crap 💩 for houses built with wood. The thing that they don’t get or understand the house here are built using the best materials for the area in America. Look at most of NY does use brick, but brick isn’t good in tornado areas. Just like in places like Arizona, New Mexico and that area uses adobe clay because of the heat in the area getting up to 120° F (49° C) or even higher the record temperature here was 134° F (57° C)
